Model outputs are showing that the frequency of long-period swells in local waters have dropped to below 15 seconds (warning threshold). However, seas will remain hazardous with swell periods in the vicinity of 13 seconds, during the next few days. Therefore, small craft operators and beachgoers should continue to exercise caution.

Stay informed through local weather updates and heed all advisories from the Meteorological Department of St. Maarten.

A Special Bulletin is issued for weather events that are unusual, cause general inconvenience or public concern (requiring the attention and action of fire department and police authorities) and cannot adequately be described in a weather forecast.
High Surf Advisory announces that onshore wave action in breakers will likely cause somewhat higher sea (today) or is already occurring.

High Surf Warning indicates thatsignificanthigh onshore wave action is certain to occur or is occurring already mainly because of swells.

The Meteorological Department St. Maarten (MDS) communicates weather events for St. Maarten through its daily forecasts — this is the lowest level of alert at the MDS. In the event of a possible threat due to severe weather, the MDS will issue Special Weather Bulletins.

A Precautionary Statement is issued within the Daily Public Forecast, usually when conditions are expected during the forecast period.

An Advisory/Watch/Warning is issued separatelyusually when conditions are expected within 1-2 hours.
